Letting someone into your home is a trust decision. Price matters, but the questions below matter more, and a good company will answer every one of them without hesitation. Here they are, with what a good answer sounds like and how we answer them.
1. Are you insured, and what does it cover?
General liability insurance covers damage to your home and belongings. Ask whether the policy covers the specific people who will be in your home — some companies only insure the owner — and, whatever the answer, get the damage policy in writing: how to report it, the deadline, and what they'll do. Ours is simple: report damage within 48 hours with photos and we repair, replace or credit it.
2. Are your cleaners background-checked?
Ask what the check includes (criminal, identity, work eligibility) and whether it's repeated. Every pro on our platform is background-checked and interviewed before their first job, and customers rate every visit.
3. How do you price — hourly, by room, or flat?
Hourly is transparent but unpredictable; a slow cleaner costs more. Flat pricing is predictable if the company actually honors it. Ask what happens if the job takes longer than expected. We quote cleaning as a flat price per visit and eat the difference if it runs long.
4. What exactly is included?
“Standard clean” means different things to different companies. Ask for the checklist, and ask what's extra (inside oven, inside fridge, windows, laundry). Our standard and deep clean checklists are spelled out in our deep-cleaning guide.
5. Will I get the same person each time?
Consistency is most of the value of recurring service. Ask whether the company assigns a regular pro and what happens when they're out. We match recurring customers with the same pro whenever possible and tell you in advance if someone else is coming.
6. Who supplies products and equipment?
Most companies bring their own. Ask whether they'll use yours if you have allergies or preferences, and whether eco or fragrance-free products are available. We bring everything and offer an eco service with plant-based products and HEPA filtration.
7. What's your guarantee?
A real guarantee has a window and a remedy. Ours: tell us within 24 hours and we'll send a pro back to re-clean the areas in question at no charge.
8. What's the cancellation policy?
Look for a reasonable notice window and no long contracts. Ours is 24 hours' notice to reschedule or cancel at no cost, and no contracts at all — recurring service can be paused or stopped any time.
9. How do you handle keys and alarm codes?
Ask how access details are stored and who can see them. We recommend a lockbox or a temporary smart-lock code you can change; share it in the quote notes, which only staff can see.
10. Can I see reviews or references?
Look for recent, specific reviews, and be wary of companies with only perfect scores and no detail. We're a growing local team, so ask us for references from customers in your area rather than a wall of stars.
Frequently asked
Should I hire a company or an independent cleaner?
Independents are often cheaper and can be excellent. Companies cost more but carry insurance, cover absences, and handle background checks and scheduling. If you value predictability and protection, a company is the safer choice.
Is it rude to ask for proof of insurance?
No. Reputable companies expect it and can send a certificate of insurance on request.
How far in advance should I book?
Recurring service can usually start within a week. Move-out cleans and holiday deep cleans book up, so give two weeks' notice when you can.
